There are three characters in the text : Jack, Lena and Rakban.

 

Lena is Jack’s mother and Rakban is the wizard of the village.

 

The villagers are not happy because Rakban is not nice.

 

« as » is the synonym of « since », or « indeed ».

 

The past tense used by Rakban is the present perfect : there is a consequence on the present moment.

 

Rakban is addressing Lena when he says « Come here. »

 

Jack screams when his mother is punished, but the others don’t react.
